Partners in Education is a community effort to team businesses and organizations with classes in the local schools. The Children's Department coordinates participation in this activity with other areas of the library. The Fulton County Public Library is teamed up with a 4th grade class at Riddle School. A member of the library staff makes a monthly visit to the class and they talk about what they do at the library, and what their favorite books and activities are.

Junior Achievement classes are taught by Becky Williams at Columbia and Caston. They teach basic Economic information called: Our Community (for second graders). These classes are coordinated by Heidi Campbell, Junior Achievement. Anyone interested in teaching a Junior Achievement class may contact them at their web site

Head Start visits are twice a month in Rochester and once at the Akron site. Learn more about Head Start at their web site

The After School Program is provided for Columbia Elementary School each Friday afternoon at 4 PM. Stories are read to the children who wait for their working parents to pick them up after school.

Summer Reading Program

The Summer Reading Program (SRP) is an annual reading program that encourages children to read during their summer break from school. It begins first part of June and runs through the third full week of July. This program is a family (caregiver) oriented program and is open to all age groups of our community. There are activities and crafts each week for all participants, their family and friends.

Story time and Craft Time for Kids alternates every other Tuesday at 10 AM and 2 PM. Stories, finger plays and puppets highlight each story time. A make and take project keeps children on their toes on our craft time days.

The Children's Department encourages local caregivers and schools to take advantage of our services. We gladly provide programming at their request. Becky Williams will come to your agency and present half hour to hour programs for your institutions. The Children's Department will also provide tours of the library and its grounds.

Volunteers to help in any way are always appreciated. Call 1-574-223-2713 and ask for Becky Williams for more information.
